Clarion man gets 20-40 state prison term for rape of girl

A Clarion man was sentenced Wednesday in Clarion County court to serve at least 20 years in state prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Daniel Ray Droddy, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of rape of a child. Prior to his sentencing, Droddy told Judge Sarah Seidle-Patton his version of the facts and said he had never been in trouble before.

Droddy also said through his tears that he was a “good man.”

District Attorney Drew Welsh said there is “no offense with a higher impact” for creating long-term trauma for the victim. He said the victim “reached out to him (Droddy) and he “exploited her for his own satisfaction.”

Welsh asked Seidle-Patton for a sentence on the “high end” of the sentencing range, and the judge obliged. She said she had read the victim impact statement from the girl and reviewed the evidence and concluded Droddy’s actions would have an “impact on this little girl for the rest of her life.”

The sentence of 20 to 40 years at the SCI Greene state prison exceeded the standard range of seven to 20 years.

In addition to the rape charge, Droddy was initially charged with deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16, statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor (sexual offenses), aggravated indecent assault with a complainant less than 13, aggravated indecent assault with a complainant less than 16, corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility.

During an interview with Clarion state police, Droddy allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl between October and December 2017. He said they continued to communicate through social media from October 2017 to December 2018.

He also admitted to inappropriately touching the girl and having her perform sexual acts on him. Droddy was 32 and the girl was 12 at the time of the incident.

Droddy admitted to video chatting with the girl about sexually explicit information and also said he received pictures of the girl’s s breasts through social media, according to a criminal complaint.
