Clarion Hospital begins pediatric COVID vaccinations

Clarion Hospital earlier this week opened the first pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the area.

“This is our first pediatric clinic, and we have over 60 kids registered and it has been going very well,” said Leslie Walters, Clarion Hospital’s chief nursing officer. “The kids have been amazing.”

Walters said additional clinics have been scheduled.

“We will continue to have clinics in the evening so the kids can come after their school activities,” she said. “We will probably have one over the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks so that everyone who wants a vaccine can get one.”

Dr. Ashley Kunselman said she is “super excited for my boys to be protected from COVID-19. It’s been a long pandemic and we are ready for it to be over.”

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention authorized the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.

Clarion Hospital is offering special vaccination clinics at the hospital on the following days: Wednesday, 3-6 p.m.; Nov. 26, 9-11 a.m.

Additional pediatric vaccination clinics will be scheduled.
