Clarion Food Pantry always ready to serve

The hallways at the Clarion County Community Action building in Clarion are lined with donated food items because the small office building also serves as the Clarion Food Pantry.

One room was set aside as the food pantry and contains shelves and freezers, but the room isn’t big enough to contain the generosity of the Clarion community.

Local churches, individuals, Clarion University, and the Clarion Chamber of Business and Industry provide donations to the pantry.

“There is just a wide, wide variety of people who donate,” said Jessica Kalkhof, community resources director for Community Action.

Kalkhof said Clarion County residents who are in need of a little extra food can come in and get food based on the size of their family.

“We have mostly non-perishable food items and sometimes we have meat to go along with it. We do have freezers,” she said.

Kalkhof said about 50 to 70 families are served every month, and “holiday food” is offered during the holiday season. She said the number of families served is usually higher around the holidays.

The pantry is open Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
