Clarion County man shot to death after standoff

From staff reports

A Clarion County man was shot to death by state police after a standoff that began late Tuesday night at the man’s residence on Lenwood Road in Summerville.

Clarion state police said the man, identified as Corey Rominski, 34, had fired numerous rounds from an assault-style rifle at law enforcement personnel, who returned fire and struck Rominski.

Rominski died from his injuries at the scene, police said.

Police said they were sent to Rominski’s home at 528 Lenwood Road at 10 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check on him.

Rominski had visited a friend earlier in the day Tuesday, and he told the friend he was depressed and in possession of a shotgun, according to police.

Rominski returned home and barricaded himself in his residence, and police said they established a perimeter as Rominski fired several rounds from the shotgun.

The state police Special Emergency Response Team was activated, and the team responded and surrounded the residence, police said.

Contact with Rominski was attempted by negotiators, but the efforts were unsuccessful, police said.

Rominski then exited the rear of the residence and fired at law enforcement, resulting in the return of fire by troopers, police said.

The state police Major Case Team, Clarion County district attorney Drew Welsh and county coroner Dan Shingledecker responded to the scene, and police said their investigation is ongoing.
