C-L schools to fully reopen

A long, contentious battle regarding school reopening in the Clarion-Limestone School District will soon end.

The school board approved a reopening plan that will have students return for face-to-face instruction five days per week.

The measure passed by a 5-1 margin; board member Joe Billotte cast the dissenting vote. Board members Kathy Henry and Corry Bish were not in attendance.

Superintendent Amy Glasl outlined the reopening plan, which was formulated by the C-L administration.

The plan will allow students not comfortable returning to the school building to remain on remote learning.

However, those students who choose to remain remote will be required to take part in synchronous classes (classes that take place at the same time for remote and in-person classes) and attendance will be required.

The district’s teachers were concerned with the increased workload due to the two teaching models, but Glasl said the district has hired a number of substitute teachers to ease some of the extra workload.

Board member Dave Eggleton said he and the rest of the board were informed the failure rate of 100% remote learners was 40% in one of the schools and 60% in the other school.
