American Legion Auxiliary plans to award $5,000

The January Meeting of the Clarion American Legion Auxiliary was held on Monday, Jan. 8. Total membership is at 370 with eight new members so far this year. Members can renew by mail, on line or by visiting the American Legion.

Five scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded again this year. Applications have been mailed to seven schools in the county.

The applications can be obtained from the Guidance Office at each of these schools. These scholarships will be awarded on Memorial Day to the selected local students. Applications must be completed and returned by April 30. Since 2004, the American Legion Auxiliary has awarded over $62,000 in scholarships to local students.

Three Americanism Awards will also be presented to local sixth grade girls at three local schools again this year.

A decision was made to donate 25 wreaths for the Wreaths across America with a matching 25 wreaths.

A plaque will be ordered for the memorial bench in the lobby in Honorable Memory of Ken Orsino, Commander.

Our meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at the American Legion. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
