The Venango County Conservation District will hold its first Agricultural Awareness Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Baytree Farm on Rockland Nickleville Road in Emlenton.
Ag resource technician Becky Deeter said the field of agriculture is expanding rapidly in terms of technology and opportunity.
In addition to speakers and presenters, various children’s activities will be available, such as face-painting, games and hayrides.
Various local vendors will be selling food, and Cleveland Brothers Equipment will be holding a mini-excavator skill competition.
“Anyone can get on the excavator and do the competition,” Deeter said. “We also have a presentation on farming with drones. The event is to educate the public on what agriculture has to offer. It’s about educating the public on where our food comes from, what all goes into agriculture and to focus on the conservation aspect of it as well.”
Non-point source pollution is caused by rainwater or snowmelt moving along the ground and picking up pollutants as it goes. These pollutants may be in the form of animal waste, excess fertilizer or any kind of chemical used in gardening and farming.
Attendance is free, and no registration is required.
