Additional imaginary train ride set for Saturday

From staff reports

The Redbank Valley Historical Society recently commemorated the 150th anniversary of train service from Redbank to New Bethlehem at the History Center, 301 Broad Street in New Bethlehem.

The program featured an imaginary ride in a steam locomotive on the Allegheny Valley Low Grade Railroad that ran from Redbank Junction to Driftwood in Cameron County. The program will be repeated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the History Center, 301 Broad Street, New Bethlehem.

When “passengers” arrive, they will be greeted by a conductor who will see them to their seat in the passenger area. Don Shilling, the engineer, will point out many historical sites along the railroad.

Travelers will pass through several tunnels and will also learn some old railroader’s terminology on their journey.

A large collection of railroad and related items are on display. The program is open to the public.

Those attending are urged to bring railroad artifacts or stories to share.
