Acting coroner takes oath in Clarion County

Daniel Shingledecker was given the oath of office Thursday night as the acting Clarion County coroner.

Shingledecker succeeds Randall Stom, who died this week. Shingledecker had been a deputy coroner for Stom.

Stom had not appointed a chief deputy coroner, and county Sheriff Rex Munsee assumed the coroner duties on Tuesday until a new coroner was named.

Shingledecker will be the acting coroner until he is commissioned by Gov. Tom Wolf.

County Commissioner Ted Tharan said the commissioners will submit Shingledecker’s nomination to state Sen. Scott Hutchinson. The nomination would go to Wolf following conformation by the state legislature.

Shingledecker is married with two children. He is employed by Clarion-Forest County VNA.

Tharan said that if Shingledecker wants to continue in the position he would need to seek re-election in the next general election.

“I just want to make Randall Stom proud. He was a great coroner,” said Shingledecker. “I want to serve the community with dignity and compassion.”

Stom was elected coroner in 2017 and took office in January 2018.
