Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School will present Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Sound of Music” at 7 p.m. today through Saturday, April 21-23, 2016, at the high school auditorium.

The production features Jaren Bittinger as Captain VonTrapp, Libby Best as Mother Abbess, Caroline Lowrey as Maria, John Hetrick as Rolf, Aven Bittinger as Max, Taylor Pennington-Dunkel as Elsa, Allison Sherman as Leisl, Brent Hetrick as Fredrick, Sierra Verostek as Louisa, Marissa Fischer as Brigitta, Braden Murray as Kurt, Abigail Barris as Marta, Madilyn Meyers as Gretl, Jill Caldwell as Sister Sophia, Lexy Slater as Sister Margaretta, Cassidy Bowser as Sister Bertha, Austin Barger as Franz, Virginia Kahl as Frau Schmidt.

The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theater.

Tickets are available at the door and cost $6 for adults and $5 for students. The production is directed by Julie Findlan-Powell and Jennifer Lowrey with pit direction by Cameron Ashbaugh.
