4 candidates win Dem write-in nods in Clarion County

From staff reports

Three Republicans who captured GOP nominations in last week’s primary election in Clarion County also secured enough write-in votes to win Democratic nominations.

The three are incumbent treasurer Tom McConnell, who had 100 Democratic votes; incumbent register-recorder Greg Mortimer, 241 Democratic write-ins; and district attorney candidate, Drew Welsh, 295 Democratic write-ins.

McConnell and Mortimer were unopposed on the GOP ballot, and Welsh, currently an assistant district attorney, defeated Maria Battista for the GOP DA nomination.

The write-in results mean none of the three candidates will face ballot opposition in November.

Meanwhile, Braxton White of Marianne, who waged a write-in campaign for Clarion County commissioner, received enough Democratic write-in votes (373) to join the November ballot.

The three incumbent commissioners – Republicans Ted Tharan and Wayne Brosius and Democrat Ed Heasley – will also be on the fall ballot after securing party nominations last week. Three commissioners will be elected in November.
