To help improve access and safety to the new Scenic Rivers-Clarion County YMCA in Monroe Township, the state has approved a grant worth nearly $500,000 to make it easier for pedestrians, cyclists, bus riders and vehicle traffic to travel to the facility, said Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-63).
“This sizeable state grant will make it easier for people who don’t have a vehicle to access the many programs, services and amenities at the new facility,” said Oberlander, who has helped secure more than $4 million in state funding to make the long-sought project a reality.
The grant totals $498,438 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Program within the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Specifically, the proposed new access road will connect BP Drive and Mayfield Road, eliminating an unsafe traffic pattern, and allowing for direct access to the YMCA.
That trail will be constructed along Mayfield Road, Holiday Inn Road and Kane Drive to provide safer access, rather than the heavily traveled State Route 68.
The total project cost is $1.14 million.
