Work to begin on bridge over Hunter Run in Tionesta

From staff reports

Work is expected to begin Monday to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Route 36 over Hunter Run in Tionesta Township, Forest County.

The bridge is located just north of the Route 62 bridge that enters Tionesta Borough.

The project will include the stabilization of the existing wingwalls, reinforcement of the bank along Hunter Run with large stone and the addition of fish baffles, which alter the flow of the water to provide rest areas for migrating fish.

Motorists may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers and should expect delays during active work hours.

The work is expected to be completed in September.

The existing bridge was built in 1959 and is classified as in poor condition. About 1,600 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Mekis Construction Corp. of Fenelton.

The contract cost is $362,730, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
