Wolf’s Corners Fair promises action-packed week

From staff reports

For 78 years, the Wolf’s Corners Fair set to open Sunday, July 3 this year has brought family entertainment to northern Clarion County and this year will be no exception with many events and attractions.

Starting more than 80 years ago with a few farmers and their families gathering for a horse pulling competition and community picnic on the 4th of July, the fair has been expanding ever since.

The fair is always held over the week of the Fourth of July and boasts many unique activities.

Throughout the fair’s existence it has added the midway, amusements, games, and a large youth and agriculture program to the schedule.

Preparation for the fair takes place all year. Scheduling and planning for next year is already underway.

The Wolf’s Corners Recreation Association Board of Directors, members and volunteers work very hard all year to ensure the Wolf’s Corners Fair is the best it can be each year.

A ‘Class A’ fair

The Wolf’s Corners Fair is recognized by the Pennsylvania State Department of Agriculture as a “Class A” fair.

According to state law, a “Class A” fair is “an annual agricultural event which operates on 40 acres or more of land and pays $10,000 or more in premiums to winners of agricultural or agribusiness contests or exhibits.”

The Department of Agriculture Fair Fund reimburses officially recognized fairs for some costs, including contest pay-outs and grants are available when the legislature and governor can agree on a state budget to help with ground improvement and operating costs.

The Wolf’s Corners Fair is also different from other county fairs. Being privately-owned and operated, it is not governed by the county and is less commercialized.

This year, daily features and events include, aquatic acrobatic shows, Lew-e’s Comedy Circus and Patriot Games laser tag.

Carnival rides will open at 3 p.m. Monday, July 4; at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 8, and noon Saturday, July 9.

The fair will open Sunday, July 3, and run through Saturday, July 9. Admission is $10 per person which includes, parking, admission, midway rides and all shows.
