Western PA gasoline prices jump ahead of holiday

From staff reports

The average price of gasoline across western Pennsylvania is 10 cents higher over last week, at $2.87 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

The average price during the same period last year was $2.81. Across the state, the average price on Monday was $2.79.

Motorists could see some small increases at the pump as Thanksgiving approaches with its heavy travel, according to AAA. An increase could also be the result of decreasing stocks in the region.

Meanwhile, average gasoline prices throughout the region are as follows: Venango County, $2.91; Clarion County, $2.87; Forest County, $2.87; Crawford County, $2.95; Jefferson County, $2.87; Mercer County, $2.83; Butler County, $2.83; and Warren County, $2.95.

On the national front, the average cost of gasoline on Monday was $2.59, according to AAA. The 2018 holiday weekend average was $2.57.

During Thanksgiving week last year, AAA said, the national gas price average decreased by a nickel between Monday and Thursday, which could be the case again this year.
