Walk a Mile in Her Shoes set in Clarion

From staff reports

PASSAGES, along with Clarion University’s women and gender studies program and V-Day Project student group, will hold the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 10.

The walk will begin and end at CUP’s Gemmell Student Center.

Walk a Mile is the international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Men are encouraged to walk in red heels, which are available from PASSAGES. To reserve shoes, participants must pre-register by April 5 by calling (814) 226-7273 or (814) 849-5303. Women are encouraged to support the men by wearing a white shirt for the walk.

Event day registration will begin at 4 p.m. in Gemmell multi-purpose room.

“This year, PASSAGES is doing a fundraiser, so marching in the event not only raises awareness and takes a stand against sexual assault and violence, but it can also raise funds for PASSAGES, an important local community resource,” said Melissa Downes, director of Clarion’s women and gender studies.

The individual or team that raises the most money will receive an award. Donation forms are available by calling PASSAGES or (814) 393-2720, or at the WGS office in 207 Harvey Hall, Clarion University.

PASSAGES, located at 415 Wood St., Clarion, provides free and confidential services to survivors of all forms of sexual violence. It serves Clarion, Jefferson and Clearfield counties.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is supported by a Clarion University Community Fellows Program grant. Student organizations Phi Sigma Sigma, English Club and Sigma Tau Delta provide additional support.
