A-C Valley

FOXBURG – Local veterans and their families are invited to attend the annual Veterans’ Day program beginning at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School auditorium.

This event is open to the public.

Clarion VFW

CLARION – The Clarion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2145 will hold a free dinner for veterans and their guests from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Liberty House Restaurant, 603 Liberty Street in Clarion.

The dinner is broasted chicken.

Clarion-Limestone

CLARION TWP. – Clarion-Limestone School District students K-12 will have breakfast with pre-invited veterans from their families at 8:20 a.m. in the high school cafeteria.

At 9:05 a.m. an assembly honoring veterans will be held in the high school auditorium. The event will feature a guest speaker along with choir and band selections. All veterans and the public are invited to the assembly.

North Clarion

FRILLS CORNERS – North Clarion School District will be holding its annual Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10 at 1 p.m. in the high school gymnasium and at the Veterans Memorial Park located between the high school and elementary buildings.

The Junior Historian officers are sponsoring and presiding over the assembly. Tim Nicewonger, a veteran, will be the keynote speaker.

At the assembly, students from the elementary and high school will participate by singing patriotic songs and reciting poems to honor the veterans.

At the conclusion of the assembly, guests and students will gather outside at the North Clarion Veterans Park area for a special ceremony to honor deceased local veterans. The ceremony will also include the laying of a wreath by members of the VFW Post #2145, a gun salute and posting of colors presented by members of the American Legion, Post 66, and the playing of “Taps” by a North Clarion student.

The North Clarion Veterans Memorial was built and dedicated in 2001. It contains bricks with names inscribed on them of local deceased veterans. The bricks are arranged according to their respective eras and wars.

JH officers will also host a luncheon at noon for veterans in the high school library prior to the assembly. The assembly is open to the public.

Union

RIMERSBURG — Union High School will hold its 66th annual Veteran’s Day Assembly on November, 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. with the band presenting a short concert at 9 a.m. in the Donald Stemmerich gymnasium. The guest speaker is state Trooper Ryan Wilson. Breakfast will be served for veterans and their families at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria. It will include coffee, orange juice, donuts, fruit, and a breakfast casserole. This event is open to the community.

Brookville

BROOKVILLE – American Legion Post 102 will host the annual Veterans Day service on Saturday, Nov. 11 in the large courtroom of the Jefferson County Courthouse. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m.

U.S. Army veteran Mark Humes will be the feature speaker at the event. The program will open with a welcome by Army veteran Randy Bartley. Post 102 Chaplain Jim Porter will offer the invocation. Following the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Zoe Girty, local Boy Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. American Legion Post 102 Commander Steve Ent, a Navy veteran, will provide a history of Veterans Day.

Following the service, the Brookville Honor Guard will fire a rifle salute. This year the audience will be given time to exit the courthouse to watch the rifle salute. The salute will be conducted at the Veteran’s Memorial on the courthouse lawn. The service will conclude with the playing of “Taps.”

Anyone with a disability will be able to use the elevator at the rear of the basement of the courthouse. The public is invited to attend.

Rimersburg Lions Blood Drive

RIMERSBURG – The Rimersburg Lions Club is gearing up to sponsor its Veteran’s Day Blood Drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross which will take place Friday, November 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rimersburg Community Building at 484 Main Street in Rimersburg.

Potential donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment for the November 10th blood drive by visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org or by calling (800) 733-2767. However, the American Red Cross will also welcome walk-ins the day of the drive.

Also, those donors who have scheduled an appointment can streamline their blood donation process by visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaires on the day of their appointments.

“What better way to honor our brave veterans this Veteran’s Day than to give blood to help save someone’s life,” added Greg Mortimer who is coordinating the event for the Lions Club.
