U.S. Forest Service reopens Mayburg Bridge

From staff reports

The Mayburg Bridge was reopened on Friday evening, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

The Mayburg Bridge, which joins Howe and Kingsley townships in Forest County, has been under construction since Nov. 18, the release said.

The bridge overlay that was installed allows the public to safely cross Tionesta Creek, and also allows safe access for heavier vehicles, the Forest Service said.

Forest Road 180D has been providing residents temporary alternate access to Mayburg, but is now closed to through traffic in order to be used for a snowmobile trail. It will no longer be open or used as an alternate access road to Mayburg, the Forest Service said.

Currently, Forest County officials are working to replace the Mayburg Bridge outright by seeking funding through the Transportation Improvement Program and/or Commonwealth Financing Authority.

The Forest Service said it will continue to work with Forest County, Mayburg residents and other stakeholders to seek funding for a replacement bridge, ultimately conveying ownership of the bridge from the Forest Service to the appropriate owner.
