Two-room schoolhouse undergoing restoration

From staff reports

The two-room schoolhouse at West Freedom in Perry Township, Clarion County is undergoing restoration with hopes of being opened later this year for a public open house.

The restoration is made possible by the efforts of the Perry Township Historical Society. Repairs and painting of the outside of the building have already began.

The building is the only school in Perry Township that has been continuously maintained as a schoolhouse.

The building was built in 1883, erected on land from George Yingling for $330.

The society’s mission is to preserve the history of the township and hold events to bring the community together in a spirit or pride for the accomplishments and culture of its pioneers.

A book us being compiled with information on all old Perry Township schools.
