Traditional Shop with a Cop returns in Forest County

The Forest County Sheriff’s Office 10th annual Shop with a Cop is back.

The program joins underprivileged children with law enforcement officers and first responders who help the children spend donated money on Christmas gifts, such as clothing and toys.

This year the event will be returning to how it had been held before COVID-19 in 2020.

The children will be picked up at a designated location and taken to Walmart to shop with a $100 allowance.

The group will meet for dinner before returning.

The family of each child will receive a gift certificate to a local grocery store for their holiday meal.

In 2020 and 2021, Shop with a Cop went ahead but with modifications due to the pandemic. Both those years, children were not taken shopping in person due to safety concerns; instead, each child received a $100 Walmart gift card and the families received a gift card to buy food for their holiday meal.

The Forest County Sheriff’s Office last year was able to help 48 children from 39 families.

The program is a nonprofit charity sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office.

Donations can be mailed to the Sheriff’s Office at 526 Elm St., P.O. Box 9, Tionesta, PA 16353.

Donors should make a notation on their checks that the funds are for Shop with a Cop.

Anyone with questions can call (814) 755-3541.
