Tionesta ‘Maker Night’ set for Sept. 9

From staff reports

The public is invited to enjoy a free Maker Night event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in the parking lot of Forest Scientific in Tionesta.

This special event will include live demonstrations of metal working, wood working, jewelry-making, sticker design, painting, and more.

Plus, guests will enjoy a peek at the inner workings of Forest Scientific, a company that builds CNC machines, laser and plasma cutters, transportable maker labs, and more that are used worldwide in businesses, schools, and museums.

Refreshments from Pizza Joe’s will be provided while supplies last.

This event is hosted by the Forest County Business Alliances. The organization is currently conducting a feasibility study about the potential opening of a maker space in the Tionesta area.

A maker space is a workspace specifically designed for making, learning, exploring, and sharing with the goal of providing both shared workspace and equipment for people who make things and lack adequate space or access to equipment to produce or develop new products or work.

This may include artists, product artisans (food, soaps, candles, etc.), woodworkers, musicians and vocalists, technology developers, and many other categories of makers.

The community’s input will help the Forest County Business Alliance determine if there is interest to support such a space, what kind of equipment and supplies it should have, where it would be located, and more.

Surveys and an opportunity for input about the proposed maker space will be collected at the event.

The Tionesta Maker Night will be held at Forest Scientific, 668 Elm Street in Tionesta Business Park.

Parking is free and all are welcome to attend.
