Tax seminars planned in Clarion

Two state tax seminars for new business owners will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the main office of the Small Business Development Center at 330 North Point Drive in Clarion.

The hosts of the event are the Department of Revenue and the Clarion University Small Business Development Center.

Both of the free seminars will be led by department tax experts who recognize the challenges that many new business owners face.

The morning seminar, “Tax Tips for New Businesses,” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will focus on the importance of effective record keeping, treatment of trust fund taxes, withholding and use tax.

A representative from the state Department of Community and Economic Development will also lead a discussion on local income taxes during the morning seminar.

The afternoon seminar, “Sales Tax Basics,” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and will cover the basic rules of Pennsylvania’s sales tax. The focus will be taxable and nontaxable goods and services, exemptions from sales tax, reporting and payment options and other related taxes.
