State funds available for snowmobile, ATV projects

From staff reports

Applications for a state grant benefiting snowmobile- and ATV-related projects will be accepted through March 31, according to a news release from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“These grants are designed to enhance the riding experience and enjoyment of ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts, who supply funding when they register their vehicles,” DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said.

“We know improved riding means more visitors to areas where their numbers can have a positive economic impact on nearby communities.”

Grants are open to municipalities, and nonprofit and private organizations, the release said. The application period opened Monday.

Proposed snowmobile- and ATV-related projects eligible for DCNR grants include: planning, land acquisition, development, rehabilitation, maintenance, purchase of equipment for maintenance and construction, and development of educational programs related to snowmobile and ATV trails and facilities.

No match is required for funding, but applications providing matching funding will be given additional consideration.
