From staff reports
The Cook Forest Vacation Bureau once again will sponsor a fun family day, “Snowman in the Forest,” beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15.
The event will be held at the new River Shelter along River Road by the playground approximately one mile upriver from the park office.
At 11:30, the judging begins and the trophies awarded. The chili is then dumped into a huge pot over the fire, and passed out for all the visitors to the park to enjoy.
There will also be hot chocolate, hot dogs and cookies.
At noon, there will be a guided hike within the old growth forest on Cook Trail. (Bring snowshoes if you have them, but not required.)
From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., there will be horse-drawn carriage rides, sledding, snowman building and ice skating (ice skates will be available for use).
Smokey Bear will be there for a “meet-and-greet” as well.
At 1 p.m., there will be the annual “Happy Dog” contest, where the pet with the best demeanor and the happiest look is awarded a trophy.
This is a great way to spend a day in Cook Forest. Bring the family, a few friends, and the family dog, and come to the woods.
The Cook Forest Vacation Bureau wants the community to see the beauty of the area in the winter.
There is no cost to spend the day and enjoy the activities; however, donations will be accepted.
