Six hurt in I-80 crash in Clarion County

Six people were injured in a crash at about 2:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 80 in Clarion County at mile marker 66.6.

Police said a Freightliner Acadia rig that had been driven by Bizimungu Francois, 25, of Cincinnati, was disabled from a previous crash. Francois’ vehicle was turned over on its passenger side, and the trailing unit of the rig was blocking both westbound lanes of I-80 in front of mile marker 66.6, police said.

A Honda Odyssey driven by Avrohom Gruen, 34, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, was traveling west when it came upon Francois’ vehicle in the westbound lanes and struck the trailing unit of the rig. Gruen’s vehicle traveled into the trailing unit of the rig and came to rest lodged inside the trailing unit, police said.

Police said Gruen suffered a suspected minor injury, and five juvenile passengers, all from Cleveland Heights, had injuries of unknown severity. All six occupants of Gruen’s vehicle were taken to hospitals for treatment, police said.

Francois wasn’t injured.

Interstate 80 was closed for a period of time after the crash.
