Ross McGinnis VFW extends ‘welcome home’ to Vietnam vets

About 50 Vietnam War and Vietnam Era veterans attended the Aug. 13 “Welcome Home” picnic hosted by the Clarion Veterans of Foreign Wars Ross McGinnis Post 2145. The indoor picnic was intended as a way to both honor veterans and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Post commander Jodi Hartle said she was extremely pleased with the turn-out of local veterans and called the experience “awesome.” There were gifts for the veterans, including dinner, Vietnam-themed T-shirts, American-made U.S. flags, Vietnam Era and patriotic-themed art donated by local artists, gift certificates from the Liberty House Restaurant, and much more. One veteran observed it was the first “welcome home” he experienced since he returned from the war. Hartle said future reunion picnics are a possibility.
