Roadside cleanup volunteers sought for Forest, Warren

From staff reports

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking volunteers to participate in the Forest and Warren Adopt-A-Highway programs, which involves cleaning litter from state-owned roadsides.

“As the weather has started to change and the snow has melted, we unfortunately start to see litter and debris along roadways throughout Forest and Warren counties,” said Adam Elms, PennDOT maintenance manager for both counties.

“We are asking for members of the communities we serve to partner with us to clean up these conditions and help the beauty of rural Pennsylvania shine.”

Volunteers collect litter on a 2-mile section of state highway at least twice a year, typically in spring and fall.

The program has more than 5,000 participating groups statewide, more than 112,000 volunteers and 8,000 miles of adopted state-maintained roadways.

In Forest County, there are 58 groups participating and more than 141 miles adopted. There are several miles of roadway open for adoption in both Forest and Warren counties.
