Rimersburg-area home badly damaged by fire

A fire early Monday morning caused a reported $100,000 in damages to a Clarion County residence.

Clarion state police said the blaze broke out about 3 a.m. Monday at the home on Fink Road in Toby Township. Police said the owner, Brandy Anne Gallagher, 38, was awakened by her dog barking to a burning smell and a smoke-filled living room.

Gallagher immediately rounded up her children, ages 10 and 13, and fled the house to call 911, police said.

Rimersburg fire chief Brad Salizzoni estimated it took about an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Nobody was hurt, but police said the damages were severe and they estimated the amount at $100,000.

Further investigation by the state police fire marshal unit determined the blaze originated behind an entertainment center in the family’s living room.

It was caused by an electrical malfunction that then caught the rest of the center on fire, police said.

Salizzoni said Tuesday he isn’t sure if the house was salvageable and that it would depend on findings from the insurance company.

He said the fire was mostly confined to the living room.

“Fortunately their bedrooms were on the back side of the house and they were able to salvage all their clothing,” he said.

Police said the fire was accidental in nature.

Callensburg, Sligo and East Brady firefighters were also on the scene.
