From staff reports

SHIPPENVILLE – On April 19, Bearett Cummings, of Shippenville, saw a mature bald eagle in a heavily wooded area along Creek Road in Green Township, Forest County. He told his dad, Mike, who stopped his vehicle to investigate.

The bird appeared injured so the two climbed a hill approximately 100-yards and could see the bird had an injured wing.

They were able to send a text to Alex Hartzell who immediately called Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer Dan Schmidt to inform him of the eagle’s condition. The three were able to provide detailed information on where to find the injured bird.

Schmidt found, caught and crated the bald eagle and took it to the Skye Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitator the same evening.

Unfortunately, the bird had to be euthanized due to its injuries, but for their efforts and concerns for the wildlife of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Schmidt nominated each of these individuals for a Pa. Game Commission Certificate of Appreciation.
