Ready for the weekend? Here’s some ideas

February has begun. Spring is approaching. It’s always a good time for fun. An ice festival, a chili cook off and entertainment for all are around this weekend.cabaret

It’s also never too early to get involved with the community and shoot for your dreams! The Oil Valley Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for this year’s festival.  It’s set for Sept. 1-3. Local filmmakers and screenwriters can submit here: http://oilvalleyfilmfestival.weebly.com/. Stay connected at https://www.facebook.com/OilValleyFilmFestival/ to get tickets as soon as they go live! A party celebrating those who submit their work will be held Sept. 3 at Billy’s, 275 Seneca St. in Oil City.

Even though it might not be that icy, you can still chill at the Franklin on Ice  starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fountain Park in downtown Franklin. Brought to the community by the Franklin Fine Arts Council, this free event will feature ice carvings, art showcases, activities for kids and of course the chili challenge at 11 a.m. on 1255 Liberty Street.

You can experience the work of more artists in Kane as painters and other artisans show off their creations from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 5 at Artworks at the Depot, 1 South Fraley St. in Kane.  Check out www.artworksatthedepot.org for more information.

If you would rather, stop by Franklin for “Keeping it Real Cabaret Lounge”. A relaxing night of music and good eats awaits at the Barrow Little Theatre, 1223 Liberty St., 8 p.m. on Friday.  The cost is $4. The show will be open to anyone over the age of 21 and will feature some local talent.  You can even perform if you would like. Email genmanager@barrowtheatre.com if you’re interested or bringing your own music along. Check out the Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/BarrowCivicTheatre?_rdr=p, for more information.

The Clarion University Theater in the Suites on Main Street is ready for the weekend! The Spielberg-Hanks historical drama “Bridge of Spies” is showing at 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and again at 10 p.m. Friday. The horrific romance “Crimson Peak” will also be showing at 7 p.m. Friday, 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday for a matinee.

Have a great weekend!
