Police: Man sets home ablaze while people were inside

From staff reports

A Warren man was arrested Thursday night in connection with a Sugar Grove Township fire at a residence while two adults and five children were inside.

Warren state police were called to assist with investigating the fire on Wilson Road when they found through interviews that Jackson Kent Knappenberger, 25, had come to the home with a plastic bag containing gas and oil.

Police said Knappenberger lit the bag next to the door and then lost his boots as he was fleeing.

Troopers found Knappenberger muddy and barefooted a short distance away.

Police said they obtained a confession on the incident from Knappenberger, who was charged with seven counts of attempted homicide and other criminal counts.

Knappenberger was lodged in the Warren County jail.
