HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania agency that awards grants for lower-income college students is trying to ensure that a state budget fight doesn’t leave students short of the aid they were promised.
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency says its board agreed last week to dip into reserves to ensure the grants are fully funded.
Spokesman Keith New said Friday that the agency estimates that another $11.4 million will be necessary, beyond the $305.2 million already authorized by Gov. Tom Wolf and state lawmakers.
The agency pledged aid to nearly 146,000 Pennsylvania college students this year.
