PennDOT: Be aware of traffic patterns, temporary signals on Route 38

From staff reports

PennDOT urged motorists to be aware of a change in traffic patterns on Route 38 in Emlenton Borough due to temporary signals being employed for traffic control during road construction work.

Three sets of temporary signals are being used during resurfacing operations in the project area on Route 38 from Honeysuckle Road to the Richmond Township line as an alternative to a road closure and detour, PennDOT said in a press release.

The temporary signals are expected to be in place for another two to three weeks.

Motorists are reminded that temporary signals have been employed for their safety and the safety of highway workers, PennDOT said.

Motorists have the same obligation to obey temporary signals as they do permanent signals.

One significant difference with a temporary signal is that all turns on red are prohibited.

Also, failure to stop on red at a temporary signal can disrupt the timing of the signal and create an unsafe condition for all motorists, PennDOT said.

Temporary signals were selected for this project as an alternative to a road closure and detour. The temporary signals will continue to be used as long as they prove to be a safe alternative.
