Pair of Clarion County polling places to change

The Clarion County commissioners on Tuesday released petitions from voters in Ashland Township and Paint Township to change the polling places.

The petition from Ashland Township asked for the polling place to be moved from Faith Church of the Nazarene to Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 2561 Grace Church Road, Knox, for the Nov. 3 election and all future elections.

The public notice stated permission to use the Grace Evangelical Congregation Church has been granted by the church.

The other request was to relocate the polling place from the Paint Township building to the Cornerstone Church of Clarion, 3655 East End Road, Shippenville, also for the Nov. 3 election and all future elections.

Clarion County Commissioner Wayne Brosius said in both cases there was not enough room to practice social distancing in the old locations.

A similar situation occurred in the primary election when the Clarion Free Library was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Clarion first and second precincts were combined at Grace Lutheran Church.

“There may be more coming,” Commissioner Ted Tharan said. “This is what we have for now.”
