OC, Clarion YMCAs to hold American Heart Month events

From staff reports

The number of adults living with heart failure and disease has increased from about 5.7 million to about 6.5 million, according to the American Heart Association’s 2017 heart disease and stroke statistics, and the YMCAs of Clarion and Oil City hope to help lower that number.

The local YMCAs have planned a month of events in honor of American Heart Month in February.

The month will begin with Heart Smart sessions at the Clarion County YMCA from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. All those who attend the seminar will receive a free week membership.

The Oil City YMCA will host blood pressure screenings from noon to 2 p.m. Friday for both members and non-members.

Through a partnership with WRC Services, the Clarion County YMCA provides free blood pressure screenings for members the first Wednesday of every month. More details are available by calling the YMCA.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III is available at both YMCAs.

This program is available for anyone who has completed a hospital supervised phase I and phase II cardiac program or for those with diabetes, pre-diabetes, fibromyalgia, hypertension or related illnesses.

The program is offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. at both YMCAs.
