The number of new COVID-19 cases in zip codes serving Clarion County between Feb. 23 and March 1 topped out at 27 with four of those cases in Marienville zip code where the state prison is located.
The previous week’s count included 31 new cases with eight of those being in the Marienville zip code.
Excluding the Marienville zip code, the number of new COVID cases in zip codes serving Clarion County totaled 23 from Feb. 23 through March, unchanged from the previous week.
The state prison is located in Jenks Township, Forest County, however, the Marienville zip code includes a portion of Clarion County and therefor the prison numbers are included in Clarion County zip code totals.
As of Feb. 26, the latest date for which such information was posted by the state Department of Corrections, SCI Forest had reported nine active COVID-19 cases among inmates and four active cases among staff.
Those numbers are down from 21 inmate cases and six staff cases the previous week.
The prison reports four inmate deaths related to COVID. That number is unchanged from the previous week.

As of March 1, Clarion County had reported 83 total COVID-19 deaths.
Vaccine update
As of March 1, the state Department of Health reported 3,785 people had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Clarion County while 2,806 people have received both doses of the two-shot vaccine.
