North Washington man apprehended for outstanding warrants

A Butler County man wanted for outstanding warrants was taken into custody last week after he gave a false identity to a state police trooper who stopped him for several traffic violations in Scrubgrass Township.

A criminal complaint says Jeffrey Albert Everetts, 51, of North Washington, was stopped about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday after trooper Nate Allison noticed the white Chevrolet van Everetts was driving had a headlight out on Route 268 near its intersection with Route 208.

Allison ran the vehicle’s license plate registration and found it had expired in December and had been suspended due to insurance cancellation to another make of vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on Big Bend Road near Route 208, the complaint said.

Everetts, who had no identification on him, provided the false name of Gary Everetts and a false date of birth that actually belonged to his brother, Gary Everetts, the complaint said.

Everetts had no proof of registration or insurance. Everetts’ true identitiy was discovered when Allison ran the VIN number of the Chevrolet van.

At that point, Everetts was taken into custody based upon outstanding warrants. It was also discovered, by obtaining a PennDOT certified driving history, that Everetts was a habitual offender and was DUI suspended, the complaint said.

Everetts was taken to the Venango County jail on a state parole detainer, the complaint said.

Everetts has been charged with a felony count of flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment and misdemeanor counts of identity theft, possession/sale/use display documents, habitual offender, and false identification to a law enforcement officer while driving an unregistered vehicle.

He is also charged with nine summary counts that include driving without a license, vehicle registration suspended, giving false information and no headlights.

Everetts is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 2 in Venango County Central Court.
