North Clarion team wins award at Worlds robotics event

From staff reports

A team from North Clarion High School won an award at the VEX Worlds robotics championships in Texas last month.

The team, consisting of Andy Castner, Nicole Fair, Owen Shaffer, Kaleb Wolbert and Patrick Young, earned the Build Award, presented to the team that has built a well-crafted and constructed robot.

The North Clarion team put in hundreds of hours all season to build the robot, maintained an engineering notebook and completed numerous interviews as a team regarding the robot.

The robot executed all the necessary tasks at the competition, and the team had three judges interviews so they could explain how they worked as a team to develop its robot.

Most members of the team are seniors and have been involved in robotics at North Clarion for four years.

A second North Clarion team, composed of all freshmen, competed at the world championships. Team members were Julian Bellotti, Logan Bish, Luke Dinger, Jackson Nicewonger, Jack Pappas and Tyler Swaim.

More than 800 teams entered the competition.
