Night kayak event will ‘Shine a Light on Suicide’

Venango County Suicide Prevention Task Force will hold its first night kayak event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Two Mile Run County Park.

The event is titled “Shine a Light on Suicide” and it will feature information about suicide prevention and will include stories of hope and renewal.

There is no admission fee for the event, which will feature a kayak light-up contest with prizes for first, second and third place.

The contest will be judged by Chip Abramovich, Venango County commissioner; Jodi Baker, executive director of the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce; and Will Price, director of the local United Way office.

Attendees will be given free glow sticks and necklaces. There also will be free refreshments such as hot dogs, popcorn and water.

Those who attend should take their own decorated kayak; all participants must wear a life jacket.

This event will be held at the county park’s Crosby Beach on Justus Lake at 471 Beach Road, Franklin.
