New probation officer appointed in Forest County

Forest County commissioners dealt with a few matters during a brief meeting Wednesday.

Maureen Skerda, the president judge for both Forest and Warren counties, appointed Mark Rhoads as Forest County’s chief probation officer following the unexpected death earlier this month of Steve Barnett, chief clerk Lynette Greathouse said at the commissioners meeting.

Rhoads has worked in the Forest County probation office for 16 years, Greathouse said.

Skerda also appointed Crystal Bell to serve the rest of Cathy Blum’s term as a county auditor following Blum’s resignation, Greathouse said.

Greathouse noted that the county auditors will be up for election next year.

In other business Wednesday, the commissioners approved the purchase of a 2022 Ford Interceptor SUV for the sheriff’s office at a cost of $33,855 as well as additional unfitting of the vehicle at a cost of $7,981.

Commissioners Bob Snyder and Basil Huffman attended Wednesday’s meeting, but commissioners chairman Mark Kingston was absent as he was on his way to Harrisburg on county business.
