National Guard to assist local nursing home amid spike in virus

From staff reports

Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo announced Tuesday it will receive aid from the Pennsylvania National Guard to help deal with its spike COVID-19 cases.

A news release from the facility said it now has 47 resident cases of the coronavirus and 37 staff cases, statistics that differ from a state Department of Health long-term care facility list.

According to the state, Clarview has 58 resident cases, 60 employee cases and fewer than five deaths.

The Department of Health, in a previous update to its list on Dec. 1, had listed Clarview with six resident cases and fewer than five employee cases.

“Clarview is taking this situation very seriously and we are grateful for the National Guard’s assistance,” administrator Alison Mills Monrean said in the release.

To help stop the rapid spread through the facility, the release said, Clarview has segmented its residents into safe zones within the facility. Employees with “active illnesses” are not working, Clarview said.

Guard members will support multiple areas within the facility, including food service, cleaning and disinfecting, and provide hands-on assistance to help care for residents.

“This pandemic has affected many care facilities,” Monrean said. “We will continue to take extensive efforts to protect our residents and staff members.”
