As January closes, we’re hoping for warmer weather. Regardless of the cold, though, you can still enjoy what your local communities have to offer this weekend and beyond!cutthrote

A relatively new up-and-coming band named The Cutthrote is holding their EP release party at 7 p.m., Jan. 29 at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Doors open as early as 6:30 p.m., and tickets cost only $10 at the door and $8 in advance. If you are looking to escape from the chilly air into a rocking atmosphere, then head to the Barrow at 1223 Liberty St. in Franklin. The show includes special guests Bravura and Ashes of a Generation.

If you are looking for a quiet, cozy spot in Clarion, you should stop by Michelle’s Café. The restaurant serves many specialty coffees and also lunch specials throughout the week. On Friday, for instance, a half of a hot Panini sandwich with a side salad or soup costs $6.50. Local musicians or artistic visitors have been known to frequent the café as well to play music when the mood strikes. The café owners encourage newcomers to liven up the place even more.  You can check out Clarion University’s Eagle Media’s expose on the intricacies of Michelle’s Café here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-E1izwJkvY.  Start the video at 8:31 to learn more about the cozy Clarion nook.

If you are 21 years old or older and are in the mood for some refined relaxation, then visit Deer Creek Winery this weekend for the Friday Night Music Lounge from 6 to 8 p.m. at 3333 Soap Fat Road in Shippenville. Musician Sawyer Stepp and his acoustic guitar will be gracing the night.

“Hunger Games” fans can share their love of the franchise with others this weekend by seeing the fourth and final film installment: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.” The movie will be showing this Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the University Theater at the Suites on Main.
