A multi-vehicle collision forced Clintonville Fire Department to close a section of Interstate 80 westbound in Clinton Township, Venango County, for about a half hour early Saturday morning.

Clintonville Fire Department Chief Gerry Rea said at 5:08 a.m. a car collided with a box truck and was blocking part of the left lane on I-80.

Rea said a semi-truck driver was parked on the right side of the road and was cleaning his windshield when the trailer was struck by another tractor trailer that was trying to avoid the accident between the box truck and car.

The truck that caused the collision came to a stop in the left hand passing lane when a third truck swerved off the road to avoid the box truck and the car, Rea said.

Rea confirmed that the third truck was not damaged.

“The road was terrible because of the snow on the ground. I’m just amazed that it wasn’t worse because of that,” Rea said.

Rea confirmed that someone was transported to Grove City Hospital by Emlenton Ambulance, but the nature of their injury is unknown.

PennDOT assisted and the scene was cleared by 7:30 a.m.

Franklin state police also assisted at the scene.
