Memorial events planned

American Legion Post 66 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2145, both of Clarion, will co-host a Memorial Day service beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, in the Clarion Cemetery on Second Avenue.

Retired Navy Master Chief and American Legion post Commander James Johnston will be the opening speaker.

The Rev. Jason Hunter of First Baptist Church of Clarion will conduct the invocation and benediction.

The Clarion Area High School band under the direction of Chris Curry will play The National Anthem and Taps. The Clarion Community Choir will also perform musical selections.

U.S. Army Sgt. Andrew Waugaman will be the guest speaker.

A rifle salute will be conducted by the Clarion American Legion Honor Guard and the Auxiliary presidents from both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will place a ceremonial wreath to honor fallen veterans.

Following the services at the cemetery, Naval services will be held at the Wayne R. Weaver Memorial Bridge at Toby.

A lunch will follow at the American Legion building at 530 Main St.

In case of rain, all the services will be held at the American Legion building.
