Man promoted to Forest County chief probation officer

Forest County commissioners, during a brief meeting Wednesday, promoted Mark Rhoads to chief probation officer for the county.

Rhoads has been with the county for 16 years.

In September, Maureen Skerda, the president judge for both Forest and Warren counties, appointed Rhoads as Forest County’s acting chief probation officer following the unexpected death of Steve Barnett in September.

In other business Wednesday, the commissioners appointed several Conservation District directors.

Leonard Hetrick was appointed as the public director, Robert Wagner was appointed as the farmer director and David Yeany was appointed as the associate director. Each man’s term will run from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2026.

Commissioner Mark Kingston was also appointed to a one-year term as commissioner director at the Conservation District. His term will run from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023.

The Forest County Business Alliance submitted the nominations.

Commissioner Bob Snyder also gave an update on the two ambulances the county purchased in December 2021.

He said the delivery of the ambulances has been delayed until April at the earliest.

The county ordered an ambulance for each side of the county, and they were originally scheduled to arrive at the end of this year.

The purchases were made with $219,300 in grant money the county received in November 2021. Grant requirements say the county must maintain ownership of the ambulances.

The county provided the required 50% match to the grant out of the American Recovery Program money it received from the federal government.
