A Parker man accused of purchasing items with counterfeit money last month at the CoGo’s gas station in Emlenton waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Central Court.

John Scott, 25, was charged with a felony count of trademark counterfeiting and misdemeanor counts of theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

A criminal complaint filed through district judge Patrick Lowrey’s office said that around 8:30 a.m. Jan. 10, Franklin state police were dispatched to CoGo’s on Emlenton Clintonville Road for a reported theft.

Police spoke with store manager Tammy Kiesling, who said earlier that day that Scott, one of her employees, had taken counterfeit $20 bills, the complaint said.

Kiesling said Scott had entered the store with two other men, and Scott had used the counterfeit money to purchase cigarettes, lottery tickets and pepperoni rolls, the complaint said.

Video surveillance footage showed Scott buying the items for a total of $260, the complaint said.

Scott remains in the Venango County jail on $30,000 bail.
