Lots of local and countywide races on Clarion ballots

Clarion County voters will have a full list of offices on the May 21 primary election ballots.

“We have the final list and people can start picking up nomination petitions on Feb. 12 at our office,” said Cindi Callihan, director of elections for the county. “They can begin circulating them on Feb. 19. We’re getting a lot of interest from people who want to know what’s on the ballot.”

The list of offices up for election include several county row offices, three judicial posts, township and borough slots and school board seats.

Topping the ballots will be the county posts.

Voters will choose nominees for county judge, three county commissioners, register/recorder, prothonotary, district attorney, treasurer and three county auditors.

Also on the ballot will be two district judge jobs. District 3-3 is centered in Knox and District 3-4 has its office in New Bethlehem.

Boroughs

Voters in five boroughs will choose candidates for three four-year council seats. They are Clarion, Callensburg, New Bethlehem, Sligo and Rimersburg.

There will be four council seats up for election in Shippenville, Knox, Hawthorn, East Brady, Foxburg and St. Petersburg boroughs.

Strattanville ballots will list five open seats on council.

Sligo Borough is the only borough with a mayor’s post open this year. It is a two-year post.

In addition, Callensburg and Shippenville have two-year tax collector jobs on the ballots.

Auditor slots, too, are up for election.

Townships

Supervisor slots are up for election in all Clarion County townships.

A single six-year post is on the ballot in Ashland, Beaver, Brady, Clarion, Elk, Farmington, Highland, Licking, Madison, Millcreek, Monroe, Paint, Perry, Piney, Porter, Redbank, Richland and Salem townships.

There are additional supervisor jobs on the ballot in four other townships. Voters will consider candidates for two posts, one for six-years and the other for either four-years or two-years, in Knox, Limestone, Toby and Washington townships.

There will be open tax collector spots, each running two years, in Brady Township and Licking Township. Auditor posts will be on the ballot.

School boards

Numerous school board seats are up for election this year.

Allegheny-Clarion Valley: There are five open seats and each runs for four years.

Region II – (1) Allegheny Township, Butler County

Region IV – (1) Foxburg

Region V – (1) Richland Township, Clarion County

Region/Richland – (1) Richland Township, Venango County

Region/Scrubgrass – (1) Scrubgrass Township, Venango County

Clarion Area: Voters will choose nominees for five at-large school board seats.

The district includes Clarion Borough and Highland, Monroe and Paint townships.

Clarion-Limestone: Five school directors will be nominated.

Region I – (2) Clarion Township

Region II – (1) Limestone Township, Strattanville

Region III – (2) Millcreek Township, Clarion County; Union Township, Corsica (Jefferson County)

Karns City: Five at-large school board seats are up for election. Each runs for four years.

In Clarion County, Brady Township and East Brady Borough are in the school district. Communities in Armstrong and Butler counties make up the rest of the district.

Keystone: Five board seats will be on the ballot.

Region I – (2) Knox Borough, Salem Township

Region II – (2) Beaver Township, Callensburg, Licking Township

Region III – (1) Ashland and Elk Townships, Shippenville

North Clarion: Voters will choose nominees for five four-year seats.

Region I – (1) Farmington Township

Region II – (2) Knox Township

Region III – (2) Washington Township

Redbank Valley: There are five open school board seats.

Region I – (2), Mahoning and Madison townships, South Bethlehem Borough (Armstrong County)

Region II – (2) Monroe Township, Oak Hall, Porter Township, New Bethlehem

Region III – (1) Hawthorn Borough and Redbank Township in Clarion County; Redbank Township (Armstrong County)

Union: The May ballot will list five four-year terms. All are at-large seats.

The district includes Madison, Piney and Toby townships and Rimersburg and Sligo boroughs.
