Local dancers compete and win in Pittsburgh

CLARION – The Dancer’s Studio mini, junior, teen and senior competition dance teams attended their second event for the season, from Jan. 13 through Jan. 15, at the DanceMakers convention and competition in Pittsburgh.

The team of 35 competitive dancers participated in numerous master classes taught by professional dancers and choreographers.

The dancers performed in several categories, including solos, duos, trios, and groups. Genres included lyrical, contemporary, general variety, tap, musical theater, jazz, and hip-hop.

Each dance routine was adjudicated and awarded either high first (96-100 points), first (90-95 points), second (80-89 points) or third (70-79 points) place.

The teams received three high first place awards, 18 first place awards, 27 second place awards, and three third place awards.

Overall, Aoife Salusky was chosen as a National Junior Scholarship winner, Lissie Lauer was Miss Senior Soloist fourth runner up, Abbey Barron was Miss Pre-Teen Soloist third runner up, and Caitlyn Wolfe was Miss Junior Soloist eighth runner up.

Style High Score Awards were presented to nine routines by teams of Lissie Lauer and Kelsey Wolf; Abbey Barron and Kaylee Baumcratz; Charlotte Schultz and Addison Siegel; and Reese Cornecki, Nevaeh Smith and Caitlyn Wolfe.

Five routines were awarded judge’s pick awards including “Little Girl Blue,” “Can’t Stop this Feeling,” “DC” and “Bases Loaded.”

Routines were choreographed by owner A-Jo Gallagher, teachers Catherine Hayes, Alex Lawrence and Shannon Peterson as well as guest choreographers, Kate Harpootlian, Rory Freeman, Channing Cooke, A.C. Ciulla, and Jason Marquette.
