Legion auxiliary lines up Christmas events

From staff reports

The regular monthly meeting of the Craig E. Fleming American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 was held Monday, Nov. 14 at the American Legion.

Auxiliary membership stands at 371 members. Members can renew membership by mail, on line or by personally stopping in at the American Legion. Remember to get your new card before the current one expires.

The annual Veterans Day dinner was held on Nov. 11, having social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Approximately 100 people attended the dinner.

The auxiliary discussed Christmas events which included decorating the American Legion Hall for Christmas on Nov. 19 as well as decorating a 25-foot Christmas tree in Veterans Park dedicated to the veterans and active military members.

This tree was adorned with over 5,000 red, white and blue lights. In addition to this tree, 31 other 8-foot trees were decorated and sponsored by various businesses and organizations. All of these trees are decorated in patriotic colors or dedicated to branches of the military or state police. The gazebo has also been decorated for the holidays.

The entire park is decorated to support our veterans and military families. This project was coordinated with the VFW Auxiliary.

Additionally for the holiday season, Light up night was held on Monday, Nov. 21 in conjunction with the Clarion Chamber of Commerce’s Night of Illumination.

There will be more entertainment in the park for the Christmas season including the live nativity and the Ugly Sweater parade ending at the gazebo with Santa visiting with area children.

A schedule of events can be viewed by visiting the chamber’s website at www.clarionpa.com.
