Legion auxiliary discusses upcoming events and dinners

From staff reports

The regular monthly meeting of the Craig E. Fleming American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 was held Oct. 11 at the American Legion.

The following items were discussed at the meeting:

The American Legion Honor Guard dinner will be held on Oct. 29 and the annual Veterans Day dinner will be held on Nov. 11. There will be a sign up sheet at the legion for anyone wanting to attend. Social hour is at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend.

The legion auxiliary invites all members to come and help decorate the American Legion building at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19.

The final business discussed was the American Legion Auxiliary along with the Clarion VFW decorating the huge Christmas tree in Clarion County Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Clarion. This 30-foot tree will be adorned with over 5,000 red, white and blue lights. This tree is to honor our many veterans and active military personnel in the county.

Any business, organization or individual may also purchase an additional 6-foot tree to be decorated in the park. These trees are to be decorated with patriotic decoration and lights, or military themed decorations. The cost to sponsor a tree will be $85, which includes the tree, holder, guide wires and a sign designating the sponsor. The sponsor is responsible for decorating their individual tree.

For additional information or to order a sponsorship, contact the American Legion Auxiliary or the VFW Auxiliary. You may also contact Susie Rathfon at (814) 226-6605.

The auxiliary meets at 6 p.m. the second Monday of every month. All members are encouraged to come and get involved.
